Hickman High School principal takes leave of absence

Thursday, September 5, 2013 | 5:41 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Hickman High School Principal Tracey Conrad announced earlier this week she will be taking a leave of absence.

Conrad is leaving to deal with a "family concern," Columbia Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark said. The length of absence is still unknown, she said.

Hickman Assistant Principal Eric Johnson will be temporarily filling Conrad's position.

Johnson was selected for the role because of his position as assistant principal, Baumstark said. The knowledge he has of the students and staff will make for an easy transition.

As soon as the district learned of Conrad's decision, an email was sent to notify all staff and parents.

Conrad is in her third year as principal of Hickman. She previously served as the school's assistant principal for six years.

"Hickman High School has a great community," Baumstark said. "Mr. Johnson and the rest of the staff will do a great job in Ms. Conrad's place."

Supervising editor is Stephanie Ebbs.
