COLUMBIA —The garage of a single-story home on Eagle View Court caught fire this afternoon. No one was injured.

Fire fighters arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage.  Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the garage and brought the incident under control in approximately 15 minutes.

The cause and origin of the fire is still being investigated.

The three adults who who were in the home at the time were able to exit safely and call 911. The initial damage estimate is $50,000, which includes a car and boat that were in the garage at the time of the fire.

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms can save lives. Be sure to test your smoke alarm once a month and replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year.
