Curtis Jones Jr., Aug. 5, 1973 — Sept. 4, 2013, formerly of Columbia

Visitation for Curtis Warner Jones, Jr., 40, who passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at his home in Morgantown, West Virginia, will be held at Christian Fellowship Church, Columbia, on Wednesday, September 11, from 6-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be at Missouri United Methodist Church, Columbia, on Thursday, September 12 at 11:30 a.m. with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Curtis was born on August 5, 1973 in St. Louis to Curtis W. Jones, Sr., and Gwendolyn Morrison Jones. He was married to Mary Ellen Enigk on December 15, 2007 in Columbia, Missouri.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 1995 from Dartmouth and received a master’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in advertising from Missouri in 1998. He was a four-year letter winner on the Dartmouth baseball team.

Curtis was beginning his second year as associate athletic director for academic support at West Virginia University (WVU), administering the operation of the student services division for the athletic department while directly overseeing academic support for Mountaineer football. Curtis went to WVU from Texas, where he spent three years coordinating the Longhorns’ football academic support services program as the school’s assistant athletic director. Prior to that, he was the assistant athletic director for student development at USF for two years (2008-2009), assistant director of athletic academic affairs at Oklahoma (2005-2008), assistant athletic director for the Sooners’ compliance program (2003-2005), and also served as director of football operations for the University of Missouri for two years (1999-2000).

Curtis was a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics and the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics APR Consultants.

In addition to his wife, Mary Ellen, he is survived by his mother, Gwen Jones; brother, Corby Jones; and sister, Kirra Jones.

He is preceded in death by his father, Curtis W. Jones, Sr.
