Curtis Warner Jones Jr. left imprint on athletic department

COLUMBIA — Curtis Warner Jones Jr. of Morgantown, W.Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, of a heart-related issue. He was 40.

Mr. Jones was born Aug. 5, 1973, in St. Louis, Mo., to Curtis and Gwendolyn (Morrison) Jones. He married Mary Ellen Enigk on Dec. 15, 2007.

A lifelong sportsman, Mr. Jones attended Dartmouth as a studentathlete. He graduated with a degree in sociology in 1995 and received four college letters for his performance on Dartmouth’s varsity baseball team.

He moved back to his home state to attend MU and graduated witha master's degree in journalism with an emphasis in advertising in 1998.

Mr. Jones worked as the director of football operations for MU from 1999 to 2000. Since that time, he held various athletic academic advisory positions with universities in Oklahoma, Florida and Texas.

Most recently, he served as the associate athletic director for academic support at West Virginia University.

Mr. Jones was a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics and the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics APR Consultants.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Jones, of Morgantown, W.Va; his mother, Gwendolyn Jones, of Columbia; his brother, Corby Jones, of Kansas City; and his sister, Kirra Jones.

His father, Curtis W. Jones Sr., died earlier.

Visitations will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Christian Fellowship Church, 4600 Christian Fellowship Road, and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Missouri United Methodist Church, 204 S. Ninth St. Services will follow Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop W.
