COLUMBIA — A 71-year-old Columbia man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of possessing child pornography after weeks of investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Department Cyber Crimes Task Force.

In mid-August, a detective on the task force discovered a home network offering child pornography through a file sharing program, downloaded several illegal videos and traced the files back to a Columbia residence, according to a release from the task force.

The task force, assisted by the Columbia Police Department, served a court-ordered search warrant at the residence it had identified. Among the computers and external hard drives that were seized, detectives discovered an estimated 700 photographs and videos depicting sexual exploitation of children, some of whom were believed to be as young as 8 years old.

Conrad Brin of 1309 Dawn Ridge Road, Columbia, was arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

He was being held Wednesday in the Boone County Jail with bond to be set.
