COLUMBIA — Thomas Matthew Rush, husband of Carly and father of Alleia, died Sept. 10, 2013, at his home in Columbia. He was 41.

Mr. Rush was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 1, 1972, to Richard and Judy Rush of Grain Valley. His older brothers, Rick Jr. and Tim, were delighted to have another sibling to add to the fun and mischief. On Aug. 1, 2008, Mr. Rush married Carly Walters. Rush was a stepdad to Kolten and Matt, and Alleia was born in 2010.

Mr. Rush graduated from Grain Valley High School in 1990. In 1995, he earned his bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from MU. While at MU, he was a member of the FarmHouse fraternity. Mr. Rush was a senior grain merchandiser for MFA Inc. for 14 years, with specialties in soybeans and wheat.

Mr. Rush loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed camping trips with his family, canoeing, fishing and hunting. During one fishing trip at Bull Shoals, the white bass were practically jumping in the family's boat. Mr. Rush was the lookout, perched on the bow of the boat. He pointed to where the schools of fish were and said, “The whites is a-running, Ma.” His family said he could always make them laugh and cheer their hearts.

Mr. Rush's survivors include his wife, Carly Walters; his child, Alleia; his stepchildren, Kolten and Matt;  his parents, Richard and Judy Rush; and his brothers, Rick Rush Jr. and wife, Jill, and Tim Rush and wife, Michelle; three uncles, J.E. Other survivors include Carly’s parents, Mike and Deloris Walters; her sisters, Carrie Walters and Kimberly Carroll and husband, Tony.
