COLUMBIA — A Columbia man was arrested early Tuesday after shots were fired on Quail Drive in northeast Columbia.

It was the fourth time this year that Columbia police have responded to shots fired on that block.

Matthew D. Johnson was charged with felony unlawful use of weapons, with a bond set at $4,5o0, according to a Columbia police news release. Officers arrested Johnson after investigating a nearby disturbance at 11 p.m. on the 2600 block of Quail Drive.

Police said Johnson witnessed the disturbance between two women, one of whom he knew, and retrieved a handgun from his home. He then fired two rounds of shots into the air, according to the news release.

Since the beginning of 2009, there have been 30 shots-fired incidents reported on Quail Drive, according to Columbia police.

No one was hurt as a result of  the incident that occurred late Monday night.
