ST. LOUIS — St. Louis police have identified a suspect who was shot and killed by an officer over the weekend.

KMOV-TV reports that two officers attempted to pull over a car after observing a possible drug transaction in the city's Fountain Park neighborhood on Saturday afternoon.

The car drove away and the officers chased him. Police said 25-year-old Jared Harris opened fire on the two officers after losing control of his vehicle and then crashing the car.

One officer was shot in the foot, while Harris was wounded multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers were detained by police but later released. The 29-year-old wounded officer was released from the hospital Sunday night and remains on administrative leave, along with his uninjured partner.
