COLUMBIA—For the second week in a row, MU football defensive lineman Michael Sam has been named Southeastern Conference defensive lineman of the week.
Sam, a Missouri senior, had three sacks and five total stops in a 51-28 win against Vanderbilt on Saturday. Two of his sacks were made on fourth-down plays in the fourth quarter of the game.
This is the first time a Missouri defender has received a weekly conference honor twice in the same season since Cornelius "Pig" Brown in 2007.
Overall, MU has earned this award four times this season. Sam was honored after wins against Arkansas State and Vanderbilt; junior defensive lineman Markus Golden was recognized after the Sept. 7 win against Toledo; and junior defensive lineman Kony Ealy was honored after the Sept. 21 win against Indiana.
The No. 25-ranked Tigers are 5-0 on the season and face Georgia in Athens, Ga., at 11 a.m. Saturday. The game is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN.
