COLUMBIA — Heather Lenae Cole of Columbia died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, in a car accident. She was 20.
She was born Dec. 20, 1992, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Kevin and Denise Volesky Cole.
Ms. Cole moved to Columbia with her family in 2005. She attended Hickman High School, where she was involved in the cheerleading squad. She graduated in 2011.
When Ms. Cole's family returned to Bakerfield in 2011, she stayed in Columbia to attend college. She was a student at Moberly Area Community College, and she had planned to go to Columbia College to get a degree to teach special education.
Ms. Cole worked as a waitress at The 63 Diner since she was 16. She also worked at Buckingham's and as a teacher's assistant at Tiger Tots.
"Heather truly had a God-like heart for the people who were blessed enough to have known her," a post on The 63 Diner's Facebook page says.
Ms. Cole is survived by her parents, Kevin and Denise Volesky Cole of Bakersfield, Calif.; a sister, Amber Cole of Bakersfield; a grandfather, Phil Cole of Jackson Center, Ohio; and many uncles, aunts and cousins in Missouri, Arizona, Kansas, Colorado, California, Nebraska and Arkansas.
Two grandmothers, Margaret Volesky and Alice Cole; a grandfather, Warren Volesky; and an aunt, Patricia Trauernicht, died earlier.
Memorial services will be held at noon Wednesday at Christian Chapel, 3300 S. Providence Road. The 63 Diner, at 5801 Rangeline Road, will host a buffet after the service.
A scholarship fund called the Heather Cole Sparkle of Hope has been set up through Hickman High School. The fund will be dedicated to students who want to become teachers.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the scholarship fund. Donations can be sent to Boone County National Bank, 1009 Smiley Lane, Columbia, MO 65202.
