E. Dale Powell, 81, of Columbia, Missouri passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013.
He was born November 12, 1931, in Harrisburg, Missouri to the late Cora Blanche (Stidham) and Ermine Ross Powell. On June 29, 1957, Dale married Jeanne Smith, and she survives. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Artillery and the Army Reserves. He then taught and coached at Jefferson Junior High School for a several years before becoming East Hall Principal at Hickman High School for over two decades. Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and gardening.
In addition to his wife, Dale is survived by his daughters: Holley Smothers (husband, Greg) of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Mary Anne Dutemple (husband, John) of St. Louis, Missouri; siblings: Janet VaNess (husband, Everett) of Independence, Missouri, Karen Harshbarger (husband, Andy) of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Ricky Powell (wife, Judy) of Boonville, Missouri; grandchildren: KariLynn Reeves (husband, Jason) of Overland Park, Kansas, David LaPointe (wife, Elizabeth) of Columbia, Missouri, and Matthew LaPointe of Jefferson City, Missouri; and brother-in-law, George Edward Smith (wife, Sherrel) of Kansas.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dean Powell and his parents.
There will be a visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Memorial Funeral Home, with memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
