LaVonne Rose Mattson, Dec. 26, 1928 — Oct. 14, 2013, of Columbia

LaVonne Rose Mattson, 84, of Columbia, MO, passed away the morning of October 14th, 2013. Mrs. Mattson was born on December 26th, 1928, in Milwaukee, WI, to Ralph Haugen and Lydia Schmahlenberger. She was united in marriage to Donald Rogers Mattson on October 14th, 1950 in Madison, WI.

Mrs. Mattson worked in Customer Service at Southwestern Bell and GTE for many years until she retired in 1989. After retirement, she volunteered at Grant Elementary from 1992-2008 where she became known and recognized as "Mrs. Honey" and also volunteered at Hickman High School from 2001 to 2010. She was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award in 2008 from the Columbia Public Schools Foundation. Mrs. Mattson was also a member of Ruth Circle at St. Andrews Lutheran Church and enjoyed traveling, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. LaVonne was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Mattson is survived by her three children, Mike (Luann) Mattson of Springfield, MO, Sandy Roberts of Columbia, and Donna (Jerry) Gundrum of West Bend, WI; eight grandchildren, Curtis (Jacque) Mattson of Springfield, Brian (Jessica) Mattson of Springfield, Lauren Mattson of Columbia, Emily (Chad) West of Columbia, Wade Roberts of Columbia, Grant Gundrum of Denver, CO, Hanna Gundrum of Madison, WI, and Maria Gundrum of West Bend, WI; one great granddaughter, Emory Mattson of Springfield; and one great grandson who is expected in January 2014.

Mrs. Mattson was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Mattson, parents, Ralph Haugen and Lydia Tanigawa, and son-in-law, Rocky Roberts.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16th, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church. Funeral service will commence at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 17th, 2013, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church. Burial will immediately follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be left to St. Andrews Church, 914 West Blvd S., Columbia, MO 65203.
