COLUMBIA —  Missouri freshman volleyball player Carly Kan was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday.

This is the first SEC Freshman of the Week nod for Kan, an outsider hitter from Honolulu, and the first time a player has received this honor in Missouri volleyball program history. The undefeated Tigers are on a 21-match winning streak and recently broke the program's opening undefeated streak of 19-0 that was previously held by the 1982 team.

"It means a lot for the league to recognize what we are doing as a team right now," Kan said in a press release. "It is exciting for me individually to be recognized, but in the end it comes down to what we accomplish as a team."

Monday's news included another accolade for the Tigers, now ranked No. 18 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll. Missouri moved up seven places from No. 25.

It's the highest ranking for Missouri since Oct. 23, 2006, according to a release from the athletics department.

Missouri is scheduled to host Georgia at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
