COLUMBIA — Leaves changing to shades of warm hues against a backdrop of crisp, cool weather is one of the great spectacles of fall.

With fall colors expecting to reach their peak next week, GetAbout Columbia and Columbia Parks and Recreation are teaming up to offer the Fall Colors Trail Ride to Rocheport for people as young as 10 to enjoy the natural beauty of autumn.

The guided bike ride will take participants along the Boone County portion of the MKT and Katy trails most scenic sections, which includes prime locations for viewing the changing leaves.

Bikers will meet at the Scott Boulevard MKT trailhead starting at 10 a.m. Saturday. The ride takes in 26 miles round-trip, but cyclists can turn around whenever they want.

"This is a no one is left behind ride," said Janet Godon, GetAbout Columbia outreach coordinator. "We are just encouraging people to enjoy the fall colors by bike."

Registration for the event is free and participants will sign a waiver the day of the ride. Godon said she expects about 25 bicyclists.
