LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Hartzler holds minority view

To all citizens of the 4th Congressional District of Missouri:

Do you think tea party zealot, Vicky Hartzler, represents you? How is it possible that a once solidly democratic district in which Ike Skelton (moderate Democrat) was representative for decades has suddenly become an area held by the tea party faction of the Republican Party?

She is an avid defender of the Defense of Marriage Act, which the conservative Supreme Court has deemed unconstitutional. She has said publicly that she doubts Barack Obama is a U.S. citizen – she is a “birther.” She accepts government subsidies for agriculture and sees no contradiction in her zealous opposition to government intervention in the economy. Indeed, her farm is a beneficiary of these subsidies. She is an evangelical Christian who allows her religious beliefs to dictate her stands on policy. Her views are akin to those of a tiny minority of our country.

While she is hell-bent on destroying the country unless her minority views become the law of the land, she accuses the president (falsely) for doing the same.

How can we citizens of mid-Missouri, Republicans and Democrats alike, bring back democracy to our district?
