James Matthew Foster of Columbia died Thursday Oct. 17, 2013

James Matthew Foster, 33 years old, passed away on Thursday Oct. 17, 2013, in Columbia, Missouri. He was known by the many that loved him as Matt. Matt was born on June 10, 1980 in Saint Louis, Missouri.

His mother was the late Brenda Munoz and his father is Jim Foster. He is survived by his father, Jim Foster, his sister, Laura Foster, his nephew, Jake Foster, his grandparents, Terry and Ira McIntyre, his loving wife, Carolyn Chipley-Foster, his beloved daughter, Daphne Louise Foster, and many devoted friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Brenda Munoz, and grandparents, Charlotte Massey, Carl Foster and Marie Foster.

Matt attended Western Kentucky University for his undergraduate degree and Belmont University for graduate school. He was proud to be a part of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Chipley-Foster on July 17, 2010.

All who knew and loved Matt knew that he was a sports enthusiast, to say the least. He was living his dream of officiating college basketball and high school football. He was equally committed to motivating others through his dedication to a fit and healthy lifestyle. He was often described as dedicated, motivating, loyal and kind.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Columbia United Church of Christ, 3201 I-70 Drive Northwest, Columbia, MO 65202. The visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia, MO 65202.

A luncheon will follow at 1 p.m. at Peach Tree Banquet Center, 120 E. Nifong Blvd., Columbia, MO 65203. For more information, call Memorial Funeral Home at 573-443-3173.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be left for Daphne’s college fund. Please make checks out to “For Benefit of Daphne Foster,” and mail them to C/O People’s Bank & Trust, PO Box G. Troy, MO 63379.
