James Matthew Foster was a sports fan, motivated others

COLUMBIA — James Matthew Foster died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, in Columbia. He was 33.

Mr. Foster was born June 10, 1980, in St. Louis to Brenda Munoz and Jim Foster.

He married Carolyn Chipley-Foster on July 17, 2010.

He was known by many as Matt.

Mr. Foster attended Western Kentucky University for his undergraduate degree and Belmont University for graduate school. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Mr. Foster was a sports fan, living his dream of officiating college basketball and high school football. He was committed to motivating others through his dedication to a fit and healthy lifestyle. He was often described as dedicated, motivating, loyal and kind.

Mr. Foster is survived by his wife, Carolyn Chipley-Foster; his daughter, Daphne Louise Foster; his father, Jim Foster; his sister, Laura Foster; his grandparents, Terry and Ira McIntyre; and his nephew, Jake Foster.

His mother, Brenda Munoz, and grandparents, Charlotte Massey, Carl Foster and Marie Foster, died earlier.

Services will be held on Tuesday at Columbia United Church of Christ, 3201 I-70 Drive N.W. The visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.

A luncheon will follow at 1 p.m. at Peach Tree Catering & Banquet Center, 120 E. Nifong Blvd. For more information, call Memorial Funeral Home at 443-3173.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made for Daphne’s college fund. Checks can be made out to "For Benefit of Daphne Foster," and mailed to c/o People’s Bank & Trust, P.O. Box G, Troy, MO 63379.
