Lyall B. Fletcher of Columbia, Nov. 25, 1922 — Oct. 19, 2013

COLUMBIA — Lyall B. Fletcher, 90, of Columbia, MO, passed away the morning of October 19th, 2013. Mr. Fletcher was born on November 25th, 1922, in Bainbridge, NY, to Clinton A. Fletcher and Margaret Bradish. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Moyer on September 11th, 1948, in Gladwyne, PA.

Mr. Fletcher graduated from Ithaca College in Greene, NY, and became a Physical Education Teacher. He was a wrestling coach for many years and even had a Junior Varsity wrestling tournament named after him. He worked as a teacher at State University of New York in Oneonta, NY, for 18 years. After retirement, he lived in Harlingen, TX, and tutored school-aged children in reading for many years. He was a proud member of the Lion’s Club who loved to play pool and teach others to play. He was an active, caring, and loving father and grandfather.

Mr. Fletcher is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Columbia; his three children, Richard E. (Charlotte) Fletcher of Rocky Hill, CN, Judith Lewis of Jefferson City, and Deborah Fletcher of Jefferson City; seven grandchildren, Lisa (Brian) Gates of Marcellus, NY, Jennifer (Robert) Littlefield of Wilmington, VT, Heather Liddell of Lone Oak, TX, Richard T. Fletcher of Wilmington, VT, James (Jennifer) Lewis of Bedford, TX, Daniel Stock of Afghanistan, and Leah Stock of Jefferson City; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Margaret, his brother, Elton Fletcher, sister, Arlene Bell, and brother, Ernest Fletcher.

A memorial service will be held at Lenoir Woods on Friday, October 25th, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be left to Lenoir Woods, 3710 S. Lenoir St., Columbia, MO 65201 or the Central Missouri Alzheimer’s Association, 2400 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia MO 65201.
