COLUMBIA — Lake of the Woods Golf Course plans to add a new shelter to its grounds come May. The Columbia Parks and Recreation Department will meet Tuesday to discuss the improvements.

The new shelter will be used as a large event area for players to hang out during tournaments. It will accommodate approximately 100 to 120 people, said Matt Boehner, the project's manager and senior park planner. The structure will be on the west side of the existing clubhouse.

The budget for the project is $120,000 and is entirely funded by golf course improvement fees, which are generated from the golf course's profits, Boehner said. After the shelter is built, the remaining money will be used to improve lighting in the parking lot.

The shelter project is set to be finished in May, before Memorial Day, Boehner said.

The public can provide suggestions for the proposal at Tuesday's meeting, which is scheduled from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Lake of the Woods clubhouse.

"This is an opportunity for people to make public comments," Boehner said. "We want to garner feedback from the community about what's going on with our projects."

Lake of the Woods is at 6700 St. Charles Road.
