Viola L. Hughes, Sept. 3, 1925 — Oct. 25, 2013

Viola L. Hughes (Vi), 88, of Columbia, MO, passed away Friday, October 25, 2013 in her home. Viola was born September 3, 1925 in Columbia, MO, to Dan Roberts and Nora Baker Roberts.

She worked as a physical therapist for 30 years at Callaway Hospital in Fulton, MO. Viola married David “Leo” Hughes September 13, 1952. She earned an award for healing arts in 1970. Viola was also inducted into the Columbia Bowling Hall of Fame February 24, 2007. She enjoyed bowling, cane pole fishing, and dancing with her husband, Leo.

Viola is survived by three daughters, Lynn Dothage and husband Kenny, of Columbia, MO, Jo Burmingham, of Union, MO, Charlene Welch and husband John, of Moberly, MO, one step son, Ronnie Hughes and wife Deann, of Kingdom City, MO, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, daughter, Shari E. Marrow, son, Donald E. Voorhies, step daughter, Peggy Sue Forbis, and nine siblings.

Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home Monday October 28, 2013 11:00am-12:00pm with a funeral service beginning at 12:00pm. A graveside service will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
