COLUMBIA — Viola L. Hughes of Columbia died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, in her home. She was 88.
Mrs. Hughes was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Columbia to Dan Roberts and Nora Baker Roberts.
Mrs. Hughes worked as a physical therapist for 30 years at Callaway Hospital in Fulton. She married David "Leo" Hughes on Sept. 13, 1952. She earned an award for healing arts in 1970.
She was also inducted into the Columbia Bowling Hall of Fame on Feb. 24, 2007. She enjoyed bowling, cane pole fishing and dancing with her husband.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by three daughters, Lynn Dothage and husband, Kenny, of Columbia, Jo Burmingham of Union and Charlene Welch and husband, John, of Moberly; one stepson, Ronnie Hughes, and wife, Deann, of Kingdom City and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her husband, David "Leo" Hughes; daughter, Shari E. Marrow; son, Donald E. Voorhies; stepdaughter, Peggy Sue Forbis, and nine siblings died earlier.
Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 28, from 11 a.m. to noon with a funeral service beginning at noon at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop W. A graveside service will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
