Orville Raymond Davis regularly drove neighborhood children to church

COLUMBIA — Orville Raymond Davis of Stephens died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013. He was 88.

He was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Stephens to Thomas and Tessie (Winterbower) Davis. He married Opal Vaughn on Sept. 14, 1954.

He was a member of the First Assembly of God and was deemed "Uncle Raymond" by the hundreds of neighborhood children whom he tirelessly drove to church each week.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Opal Vaughn; two nieces, Vicky Schamberger and Natasha Angell; a nephew, Russell Shay; a sister-in-law, Velma Vemer; and great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nieces.

His parents, Thomas and Tessie (Winterbower) Davis; two brothers, Ervin Davis and Henry Davis; and three sisters, Ella Davis Rountree, Ruth Davis and Eva Davis, died earlier.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Parker Funeral Service & Crematory, 22 N. Tenth St. Service will follow at 11 a.m. at the same location. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery, 30 E. Broadway.
