Columbia — The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri set a new personal record Thursday when it distributed its 30 millionth pound of food.

Communications Coordinator Scott Gordon said the food bank is on track to reach 32 million pounds by the end of the year, an all-time high. This will exceed its previous record, set in 2011 when 28 million pounds were distributed.

Over the last year, the food bank has seen a 21 percent increase in the number of people served, Gordon said.

"We are proud of this big milestone, but it's sad to see the need is growing," he said.
