Stephens basketball loses season opener

COLUMBIA – The Stephens College basketball team started the season with a 89-44 loss to Lindenwood University - Belleville on Friday night.

After trailing 56-15 at halftime, the Stars picked up some momentum and were only outscored by four in the second half.

Stephens played with a team of only six. Davielle McCoy put up 10 points, Dana Heggemann added 9 and freshman center Michaella Sandy contributed 4.

Stephens next plays against Missouri Valley College at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in Marshall.
