COLUMBIA — Columbia College junior Zach Rockers was named the first American Midwest Conference men's basketball player of the week for the 2013-14 season.

Rockers and the Cougars began their season in a record fashion Friday.

Columbia scored 136 points against St. Louis Christian College on Friday night and set the school's new single-game scoring record. The previous record for points in a game was 130, set back in 1977.

Rockers had a career-high 18 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Marcus Whitt led the team with 20 points.

Columbia College is scheduled to play Central Methodist at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 13 at Fayette.
