When Ryan Ferguson submitted a writ of habeas corpus to the Missouri Court of Appeals Western District in January 2013, it was the 14th time he and his legal team attempted to get his 2005 murder conviction overturned.

On Tuesday, the court vacated Ferguson's conviction. Ferguson will be released in 15 days if prosecutors do not file for a retrial within that time period.
