Stephens volleyball closes season with loss to Lyon

COLUMBIA — Stephens College volleyball fell to Lyon College on Saturday in a straight sweep (28-26, 25-23, 25-20), ending Stephens' season. Lyon advanced to the American Midwest Conference tournament next week. The Stars finished 6-24 overall and 1-10 in AMC contests.

Stephens led for at least part of the first two sets, pushing the first to 28-26 before dropping the set, but in the third set Lyon held the lead throughout.

For the Stars, freshman middle hitter Alyssa Beavers put up the best hitting percentage (.727) of her career. She had nine kills and four blocks in the match. Setter Samantha Phegley had 21 assists and 10 digs for her 11th double-double of the season, while libero Tanya Avington had 15 digs.
