Missouri group to protest Tuesday against Franklin execution

COLUMBIA – A Missouri group will hold vigils Tuesday to protest the impending execution of convicted serial killer Joseph Franklin.

Missourians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty will hold vigils from 5 to 6 p.m. in front of the Boone County Courthouse in Columbia and from 11 p.m. to midnight in front of the Missouri Supreme Court in Jefferson City.

Franklin's execution is scheduled for 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, and he will be the first person executed in Missouri since 2011.

He was convicted of killing seven people but has taken responsibility for at least 13 others.

MADP will also hold vigils around the state in Kansas City, St. Louis, Springfield, St. Joseph and Joplin.
