Christmas is a time of celebrating. But that’s not the case for every family. Some families are too poor to be able to exchange gifts or put food on the table. But one local business is doing something to change that! The High Street Victorian B&B and Tea Room in Boonville, MO is hosting several Christmas Events: Sugar Plum Tea, Ladies Christmas tea, and Historic Home Tour. My husband and I are donating 20% from every ticket that comes through the door for the Christmas Home tours to the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. Ten percent of every ticket sold for the Sugar Plum Tea will go to the Food Bank's Buddy Pack program.
The Christmas Home tours will take place December 7-8th and Dec. 14-15th and besides High Street Victorian the tours include the Roslyn Heights Mansion and the Walter Williams Mansion, Walter Williams' boyhood home in Boonville. All will be decorated with many beautiful Christmas trees to admire.
The High Street Victorian started the tradition of holding a Sugar Plum Tea for children age 3 and up. It has become a Christmas tradition loved by young and old alike. The High Street Victorian is transformed into a fairy land with twinkle lights, fine china and linens. The children attending the Sugar Plum Tea arrive in their finest party clothes — or dressed in their prince or princess costumes — and are joined by Clara, her Nutcracker, The Nutcracker Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairies in a magical land of sweets! The children also enjoy a special reading of the nutcracker story, get their picture taken with the Sugar Plum fairies or the Nutcracker and make a keepsake ornament.
Sugar Plum Tea Party is Dec 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th from 2pm to 4pm. Christmas Tea is Saturday Dec 14th at 6:30pm. Guests are to arrive dressed as a Downton Abbey character, in period costume, or their finest attire! Christmas lights and music will fill the air. Dine High Tea Style and enjoy an old fashion Christmas Party! It is the Season for mirth and merriment, indulge in homemade eggnog, truffles, treats, parlor games, Costume Contest, prizes and gifts!
