Army veteran James L. Poe was a lifelong Tigers fan

COLUMBIA — James L. Poe of Columbia died Monday, Dec. 2, 2013. He was 82 years old.

He was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Huntsdale, Mo., to Harry and Freda Melloway Poe. He married Betty Joan Jordan on May 5, 1955.

Mr. Poe served in the Army and was stationed in Japan. After returning to Columbia, he became a union sheet metal worker for 40 years until his retirement in 1993.

Mr. Poe was a lifelong Missouri Tigers fan and loved attending his grandsons' sporting events. He also loved being a father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; two sons, Rick Poe  and his wife, Judith, John Poe and his wife, Danielle; and two daughters, Cindy Bley and her husband, Wally, and Julie Cox and her husband, Keith; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Poe's parents, Harry and Freda Poe; and three brothers, J.R., Raymond, and Estil Poe, died earlier.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Free Church, 600 Silvey St.
