COLUMBIA — Opal B. Roberson of Columbia died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013. She was 88 years old.
She was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Monroe County to Emmett Forrest and Coreta Prewitt. She married J. Raymond Roberson on October 18, 1941.
"The most important things in her life were her husband, kids and church," her sister JoAnn Johannaber said.
Mrs. Roberson was a stay-at-home mom who supported her husband and took great care of her family. She married at the age of 16 and when her son, Bruce, was just six months old she moved in with Johannaber because her husband was drafted into World War II. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
"She always made great meals." Johannaber said. "We all went to her house for Thanksgiving every year because it was the only time they could have us over all together. Her husband Raymond was a preacher and everybody would bring their own special dishes."
She is survived by her husband, J. Raymond Roberson; three sons, Bruce Roberson and his wife, Linda, Daniel Roberson, David Roberson and his wife, Lynn; one daughter, Patty Russell and her husband Kent; one sister, JoAnn Johannaber and her husband Don; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Roberson's parents, Emmett Forrest and Coreta Prewitt; one sister, Betty Croft; and one brother, James Forrest, died earlier.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. The service will follow immediately in the chapel.
Memorial contributions can be made to The American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, and Breast Cancer Research.
