On Saturday, the Mizzou Alumni Association is holding a tailgate before the SEC Championship Game. The Mizzou-Atlanta alumni chapter has ordered “MIZ-ATL” shirts to sell.

Chad Bozarth, chapter president and 1995 MU graduate, said as many as 5,000 could attend the tailgate.

For those without tickets, the chapter is also staging a watch party at Buckhead Saloon from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Bozarth said his phone hasn’t stopped ringing since last Saturday’s win over Texas A&M. He's fielded calls about tickets, lodging, parking and other logistics for alumni traveling to the Georgia Dome.

“It’s a little overwhelming,” he said. “But we wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The Atlanta alumni have spent many fall afternoons this year watching Missouri football games at the Buckhead Saloon.

As the season progressed and the Tigers continued their winning streak, Bozarth said a sense of nervous excitement came over the group. Could Missouri actually make it to the SEC Championship Game in their home town?

It was a development few in the chapter envisioned at the start of the season.

“We were thrilled,” said Mizzou-Atlanta secretary Joanna Russell Bliss, MU '97. “As soon as the game was over it was like, ‘What’s next, let’s bring it on, let’s do it.’ "
