@ Michael Williams:

Actually, this [Cotton Bowl] could be a very intertaining football game.

I watched the OU-OSU football game last Saturday and OSU is capable of putting up lots of points, as are the Tigers. OSU lost last Saturday's game, but was ahead of OU for most of the game.

I note that bowl asignments include LSU versus Iowa in the 2014 Outback Bowl on New Years Day (ABC-TV). The last bowl meeting of those teams was the 2005 Capital One Bowl: Iowa won that game, 30-25 on the last play of the game (the play began with a few seconds left on the game clock, and game time expired, but the play was still active). It was a 56 yard pass play (about 45 yards in the air) to a senior reserve back who had not scored a TD previously in his college career; LSU was busy smothering the Iowa wide receivers and nobody covered him.

Holy missed assignment, Batman! That was Nick Saban's final game as LSU coach (before going to Alabama).

Ellis: Oh, I'm sure it will be a great game. I was just hoping for a team we haven't played before instead of a return to the Big 12.

Well, we controlled our own destiny but fell short, and that's unfortunate. It was truly a great season. I'm sure the players are unhappy to get sooooo close. I'm sure all of us in our secret heart of hearts wish that once....just once...our Tigers would accept an engagement as a bride rather than a bridesmaid.

We just never seem to get over this last hump to perennial greatness in any of our sports. For us, greatness comes as an unexpected surprise.
