COLUMBIA — Columbia police on Tuesday arrested an Auxvasse man who had previously been suspected of kidnapping a Columbia woman in October.

Police arrested Christopher Mears, 35, on two outstanding Callaway County warrants for domestic assault. Mears was arrested in Columbia just north of Interstate 70, according to Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer.

According to previous Missourian reporting, Mears was wanted in Callaway County for a felony domestic assault charge against 27-year-old Cassandra Laronge.

When Laronge went missing Oct. 26, police suspected she might have been with Mears, according to previous Missourian reporting. However, she was found two weeks later in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Bond for Mears has been set at $70,000, cash only. He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 14.

Sarah Ng assisted with this report.
