Columbia College men's basketball ranked No. 1

COLUMBIA — The first regular season NAIA men's basketball coaches poll was released Tuesday, and Columbia College is now No. 1.

The Cougars received eight first-place votes and 249 points overall. Columbia was No. 4 in the preseason poll.

Preseason No. 1 and defending national champion Georgetown (Ky.) lost 119-109 at then No. 23 Life (Ga.) on Dec. 2. Georgetown is now ranked No. 2.

Columbia is 9-0 so far this season heading into a Dec. 18 game at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan.

The Columbia College women's team is 4-3 so far this season. The team's struggles dropped it to No. 21 in the first regular season coaches poll after being ranked No. 13 in the preseason poll.

Head coaches from each of the conference and unaffiliated groups voted in the poll. The next poll is scheduled to be released Jan. 7.
