Lawrence Edwin Blase, Nov. 27, 1958 — Dec. 6, 2013, of Columbia

Lawrence Edwin “Larry” Blase, age 55, of Columbia passed away unexpectedly Friday, December 6, 2013, while working on the family farm.

Larry was born in Ames, Iowa, on November 27, 1958, a son of Melvin and Betty Weiser Blase. He was a graduate of Hickman High School and from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics.

He operated, with his family, Blase Angus Farm in Columbia. Larry was a member of the Missouri and American Angus Associations and the First Baptist Church of Columbia, and he served on the advisory committee for nine years for the Computers on the Farm Annual Conference with the University of Missouri Extension program. He also served as treasurer of his father’s recent candidacy for the Columbia School Board.

Larry was an avid sports fan, playing tackle on the Hickman High School football team as a student. He was an MU football and basketball fan and also a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs.

Survivors include his parents, Melvin and Betty Blase of Columbia; sister, Ann Blase of Columbia; brother, Louis Blase of Shelbyville, Kentucky; grandmother, Delpha Phillips of Vandalia, Missouri; uncle, John Weiser of Vandalia, Missouri; and two aunts, Connie Sutton of Aurora, Illinois, and Kathryn Fenton of Marysville, Washington. Also cherishing his memory are his nieces and nephew, Gabrielle, Ross and Jordan Blase of Shelbyville, Kentucky.

Services celebrating Larry’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 1112 E. Broadway, Columbia, MO with Rev. Carol McEntyre officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at a reception in the church’s fellowship hall.

Larry’s place of rest will be the Vandalia Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the church or charity of the donor’s choice.
