COLUMBIA — The city is looking for volunteers for the Columbia Eve Fest 2013, which will be held in downtown venues on Tuesday.
Volunteers are needed to work at the Missouri Theatre, Missouri United Methodist Church and at locations along Ninth Street. Volunteers are especially needed for the later shifts, from 8 to 10 p.m. and 9:45 to 11:30 p.m.
Volunteers can serve as button sellers, button checkers, ushers, stage hands, emcees and assistants for children's art activities, according a news release from the city.
The Missouri Theatre and Missouri United Methodist Church are the two locations to purchase passes or wristbands. A volunteer for each location will work at the table throughout the night, according to Columbia Eve Fest website.
Button checkers will inspect wristbands and answer general questions about the event. Ushers will help move people in and out of venues, according to Columbia Eve Fest website.
"Ushers and button checkers are the highest need," said Leigh Britt, neighborhood services manager for the city.
Each venue also needs two volunteers to work as stage hands, helping sound engineers and and moving equipment, according to the event website.
Stage hands will be needed from 6:30 p.m. until midnight to clean up and tear down equipment, Britt said.
One emcee is still needed at Missouri United Methodist Church from 7 to 11:30 p.m. and another from 7 to 10 p.m. People with public speaking experience are preferred, Britt said.
Assistants to help children with art activities at Missouri United Methodist Church are also needed, she said.
All volunteers will receive complimentary admission to the festival, according to the release.
Columbia Eve Fest begins at 4 p.m. with a 5k run, but most activities or performances start at 7 p.m. and the event ends at 11:30 p.m. with a grand finale on Ninth Street.
Performances include solo vocal and band concerts, puppet shows, drumming circles, dance parties and balloon art.
