James Flower, Jan. 28, 1938 — Dec. 27, 2013, of Columbia

 COLUMBIA — James D. Flower Sr, 75, of Columbia, MO, passed away December 27, 2013, in Columbia, MO.

Visitation will be held 10:00-11:30am, Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:30am with a graveside service immediately following in Memorial Park Cemetery.

James was born January 28, 1938 in Oelwein, IA, to Richard and Jessamine (Bacon) Flower. He was a graduate of La Plata High School. He married Norma Jean Sallee May 29, 1959; she preceded him in death on February 19, 2001.

James was an Air Force veteran and a retired letter carrier with the United States Postal Service. He was a member of the Parkade Baptist Church in Columbia, MO. He competed in multiple bowling leagues, enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, wood working, and photography. James never missed a local sporting event involving his grandchildren, and attended gospel music events with his special friend, Carolyn Hopper.

In addition to his wife, Norma, James was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.

Survivors include, one son, James D. Flower Jr. (wife Kim) of Columbia, MO, one daughter, Kathy Freese (husband Bill), of Columbia, MO, four grandchildren, Sam Flower, Caity Flower, Kyle Freese, and Shannon Freese, all of Columbia, MO, and one special friend, Carolyn Hopper.
