Cathy Marshall Anderson, 58, of Columbia, died Wednesday, January 1, 2014.
Services for Cathy will be at 4 p.m., Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Firestone Baars Chapel at Stephens College.
Cathy was born in Webster Groves, MO and moved to Columbia to attend Mizzou. Like many others, after graduation, she never left. Instead, she built a successful financial advisory business and a life surrounded by only the people she really liked. If she ever called you friend, consider yourself lucky.
At Mizzou, Cathy got a degree in Education, but after student teaching, she swore she’d never teach. She’s got other degrees and letters behind her name as well, but they weren’t all that important to her. Additionally, she had numerous honors throughout the years in her both her business and philanthropic work, but she didn’t care to make them known, so we won’t either.
Two things were very important to her: work and family. In her work, she became a teacher, but it was on her terms. She was a financial wizard and sought to show her clients how to do well, live well, and leave their marks on the world.
Cathy never married, instead falling into a family by circumstance and staying by choice. She helped to raise two girls, their husbands, and she was getting off to a good start on raising two granddaughters as well. Additionally, she leaves behind a brother, sister-in-law, niece, nephew and many cousins.
She was most comfortable at home, sitting by the fire with her dogs and watching Mizzou sports. When it was warm, she escaped to the lake, where Cardinals baseball was the background music to warm summer nights, watching the world go by.
Cathy was taken from us too soon, but she’s leaving behind a lifetime at first glance ordinary, but to those who loved her, extraordinary.
Cathy wouldn’t want you to send flowers. Instead, she would insist that you use your money wisely and if you choose to remember her, make a lasting impact by giving a donation in her name to either The Cathy M. Anderson Charitable Family Foundation, c/o Williams Keepers Financial Services, 2005 W. Broadway, Suite 100, Columbia, MO 65203 or The Gurucharri Foundation, 3220 Bluff Creek Drive Suite 100. Columbia, MO 65201.
