Fatal wreck in St. Louis blamed on icy roads

JEFFERSON CITY — A fatal crash in St. Louis is being blamed on an icy roadway.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the accident happened at 10:40 a.m. Monday on Interstate 44. Fire Capt. Gregg Favre says a car apparently slid on ice and collided with a tractor-trailer. The victim's name has not been released.
The snowstorm that dumped several inches of snow across much of Missouri on Sunday led to several accidents, but the wreck in St. Louis was the only fatality.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says many motorists appeared to follow advice to stay home or at least drive more cautiously if they did venture out.
Patrol Capt. Tim Hull says most of the more than three-dozen wrecks worked by patrol officers involved vehicles sliding off the road.
