Lucille F. Ormiston worked as MU chief transcript clerk, enjoyed quilting

COLUMBIA — Lucille F. Ormiston loved quilting and made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Ormiston died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014. She was 98.

She was born Jan. 2, 1916, in Kansas City to Frank and Caroline Engelbert.

She married David B. Ormiston on Feb. 27, 1937.

Shortly after moving to Columbia from Brookfield, Mo., Mrs. Ormiston and her husband joined Broadway Christian Church and remained active members for many years.

She also loved to travel, play cards, dance and spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and her husband traveled extensively with family, friends and as tour leaders.

She worked as chief transcript clerk at MU. Mrs. Ormiston also volunteered in the Medtique Shop at University Hospital for 34 years until her 95th birthday.

Mrs. Ormiston is survived by her three children, Sue Sherrod and her husband, Jude, of Dallas, Texas, Bob Ormiston and his wife, Pru, and Linda Evans and her husband, Bob, all of Columbia; four grandchildren, Jason Ormiston and his wife, Beth, and Sam Ormiston, all of Kansas City, Michael Evans and his wife, Debbie, of Cape Coral, Fla., and Mindy Shoalmire and her husband, Jon, of Stillwater, Okla.; and four great-grandchildren, Graham and Naomi Ormiston, both of Kansas City, and Caroline and Conner Evans, both of Cape Coral, Fla.

Mrs. Ormiston’s husband, David B. Ormiston, her brother, Jack, sister-in-law, Virginia, and two grandchildren, Kelly Evans and Jennifer Ormiston Lewis, died earlier.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Broadway Christian Church, 2601 W. Broadway. Services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.
