COLUMBIA — Columbia's city charter requires that those who want to run for seats on the Columbia City Council collect signatures from at least 50 registered voters who live in their ward.
The nominating petitions are submitted to the city clerk, who works with the Boone County clerk to certify that the signatures are valid and that those who sign them are registered to vote and live in the appropriate ward.
First Ward candidates Ginny Chadwick, Tyree Byndom and Bill Easley all submitted successful petitions, as did incumbent Fifth Ward Councilwoman Laura Nauser, who is running unopposed in the April 8 election.
Here's a look at the petitions submitted by the candidates.
Supervising editor is Scott Swafford.
