Man struck with bottle during attempted robbery near Hickman High

COLUMBIA — A 30-year-old Columbia man was struck by a bottle after refusing to give a robber his wallet at 5:40 a.m. Sunday morning.

The victim was walking from the downtown area when he was confronted by a man wearing all black clothes on Coats Street near Hickman High School, according to a press release.

The victim said the robber struck him with a bottle and then ran away in an unknown direction, according to the release. Nothing was taken from the victim.

An ambulance took the victim to a local hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the release.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing and at this time there is no suspect.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Columbia Police Department, 442-6131, or Crime Stoppers, 875-8477, to remain anonymous.
