COLUMBIA — Stephens College women's basketball had a season high in points but remained winless after a 71-61 loss Thursday to Harris-Stowe State University.

Harris-Stowe led from the opening tip and never relinquished the lead. Junior guards Alexis Minner and KeAris Vaughn, who combined for 45 points, led the Hornets.

Stephens was down by as many as 18 points two minutes into the second half but managed to cut the lead to one with 7:49 remaining in the game. The Hornets then went on a 7-0 run over the next 2:18 to regain the edge and distance themselves.

Sophomore forward Dana Heggemann led Stephens in scoring with 25 and had six assists. Seleena Neal also contributed 19 points.

The game was the annual Coaches vs. Cancer "Suits and Sneakers" game. Both coaches wore sneakers to honor cancer research.
