THE WEEK IN PHOTOS: An emergency landing, college sports, and a tricycle race

COLUMBIA – This week Missourian photographers captured pictures of of an emergency plane landing, a fire ravaged residence north of town, children racing tricycles, Missouri sports fans, and more.

 Emergency Landing

In this photo by Alex Scott, Southern Boone County Firefighter Dale Parsons responds to a plane that made an emergency landing in a field near Ashland on Thursday. The plane's pilot, Kirk Powell, had to make the emergency landing after losing power in both of the plane's engines before reaching his planned destination, the Jefferson City Memorial Airport.


Susana Gutierrez looks at the charred remains of her North Columbia duplex unit on Saturday in this photo by Sarah Rothberg. Gutierrez returned to the unit to retrieve any salvageable items left behind by the fire. Even though they lost their home, Gutierrez and her family safely escaped.


This photo by Alex Scott shows three children competing in the Activity and Recreation Center's sixth annual Bring Your Own Big Wheel event on Saturday. The ARC's biannual event allows children between 2 and 6 years old to bring their own tricycles or big wheels onto the building's upper track. All children receive a prize of candy and a certificate of completion.


Members of the University of Kentucky gymnastics team chalk their hands, in this photo by John Farmer de le Torre, before their high bar routines. The Kentucky Wildcats ultimately claimed victory over the Missouri Tigers on the Friday competition at the Hearnes Center.


In this photo by Katie Bell, Missouri fans cheer on the Tigers during their game against South Carolina on Saturday at Mizzou Arena. The Tigers ultimately won the game 82-74.


Photographer Melissa Fogarty catches the beauty in the recent cold weather by zooming in on the frozen surface of Gans Creek in Rock Bridge State Park on Thursday. Fogarty also documented other ways in which nature responded to the weather.


In this photo by Sarah Rothberg, CrossFit athlete Monica Doerr takes part in CrossFit Fringe's fundraising event for Kevin Ogar. Ogar seriously injured himself in a competition earlier this month and might never walk again. The event was held to raise money to cover the uninsured Ogar's medical bills.
