Wednesday, January 29, 2014 | 9:34 p.m. CST

COLUMBIA — A lawn fire spread quickly to the attic of a vacant home in west Columbia Wednesday night.

There were no injuries and the house was unoccupied when crews arrived, according to a release from the Columbia Fire Department.

A crew of three fire engines, a ladder truck and rescue squad from the Fire Department responded to the incident on Tremaine Drive at 6:22 p.m. Wednesday. The fire was put out in approximately 15 minutes, according to the release.

Gary Warren, a battalion chief of the Fire Department on the scene, said there were flames coming out of the attic window but didn't say how large they were or to what extent they had spread.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by Tim Bach, assistant fire marshal for the Fire Department, according to a release from the department. There is no damage estimate yet.

Supervising editor is Elise Schmelzer.
