COLUMBIA — Kenyata Dewelz Miles pleaded not guilty Friday on charges of sex trafficking and promotion of prostitution. He was arraigned via video at the 13th Circuit Court.
Miles, 32, was charged in April 2013 with the class B felony of promoting prostitution in the first degree, the class A felony of sex trafficking of a child and the class C felony of unlawful possession of a firearm.
In court Friday, attorney Stephen S. Wyse entered the not-guilty plea for his client.
According to the probable-cause statement, the defendant forced a woman to remain in prostitution, was physically violent to her and threatened her with a firearm. The statement also lists offenses that include coercion of at least one woman into a prostitution enterprise and harboring a 16-year-old girl for the purpose of prostitution.
Previously, Miles was convicted on charges of drug distribution and felony theft.
Bond was set in an earlier trial at $300,000. The next trial has not been set.
