James Homer Parker, Jan. 30, 1943 — Jan. 21, 2014

James Homer Parker, 70, of Columbia, MO, entered into rest, January 21, 2014, at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, MO.

Funeral service, officiated by Bishop Harold G. Long, will be held at Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 1 p.m. An interment will be held at a later date.

James Parker was born in Hayti, MO on January 30, 1943, to Eric and Bertha Mayfield Parker. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Lois J. Smith, who preceded him in death on January 27, 2013. James was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed talking with people on the subject.

James is survived by three daughters, Melvene L. Thomas (Virgil), of Columbia, MO, Latricia Garcia (Roger), of Columbia, MO, and Chanette Byndon (Fred), of Columbia, MO, seven siblings, Lealer Washington (William), of Rochester, NY, Alma Collier (Willie), of Rochester, NY, Ophine Caesar (Patrick), of Rochester, NY, Clusteen Swinton (Bobby), of Benton Harbor, MI, Annette Mayfield, of Benton Harbor, MI, Rebecca Owens (Linzie), of Chicago, IL, and Jerry Parker, of Benton Harbor, MI, one uncle, Archie Wright who is 101 years old, of Chicago, IL, four grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, his best friend, William Edmond, and a host of nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by Lois Smith, his parents, Eric and Bertha Parker, Floree Hill, three uncles, and one aunt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Columbia, MO 65202, to assist the family with funeral cost.
