COLUMBIA — James Homer Parker died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014. He was 70.
He was born Jan. 30, 1943, in Hayti, Mo., to Eric and Bertha Mayfield Parker. He married Lois J. Smith.
Mr. Parker served in the Army during the Vietnam War, dedicating his youth to military service. He also was an avid fisherman and enjoyed talking to others about fishing.
Mr. Parker is survived by three daughters, Melvene L. Thomas (Virgil), Latricia Garcia (Roger), and Chanette Byndon (Fred), all of Columbia; seven siblings, Lealer Washington (William), Alma Collier (Willie), Ophine Caesar (Patrick), all of Rochester, N.Y., Clusteen Swinton (Bobby), Annette Mayfield and Jerry Parker, all of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Rebecca Owens (Linzie) of Chicago; an uncle, Archie Wright of Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents, Eric and Bertha Mayfield Parker, and his wife, Lois J. Smith, died earlier.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., with an interment to be held at a later date.
