Columbia College women's basketball beats Harris-Stowe State

COLUMBIA — Sophomore forward Janairrika Bland led Columbia College with 20 points to go along with nine rebounds Saturday as the Cougars beat Harris-Stowe State 80-65 in an American Midwest Conference women's basketball game.

Senior guard Heather English contributed 16 points, and junior guard Ashley Fisher added 10 for the Cougars,which improved to 16-5 overall and 12-1 in the AMC. It is the Cougars' 12th win in 13 games. 

The Hornets' leading scorer was Shanique Buford, who finished with a game-high 27 points and 15 rebounds. Even so, Harris-Stowe State combined to shoot just 35 percent from the field. 

The Cougars have defeated the Hornets 14 straight times dating to 2008.

Columbia College returns to the court at 5:30 p.m. Thursday when the Cougars host Park University.
